Dear Coaches and Quizzers,

This year has flown by.  Seems like we just quit quizzing for the year and here it is time to begin again. Hope your year has gone well and the Lord has blessed you this year.

Couple of things you need to know:

  1. November’s quiz will be held at Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene. On the schedule it is listed as TBD.

  2. Starting time for all District quizzes is listed as 8:00am.  Please be on time for   the quizzes so we can get started on time this year.

  3. March’s quiz will include Top 16 quizoff this year.  With the vacations from school this year this is the only date that was suitable for quizzing.  Note:  we will only be taking the top 6 this year to Regionals.

  4. After much discussion regarding the divisions of quizzing with many coaches and others I have made a rule change this year regarding JV division.  It is as follows:

  1. JV division is changed to Novice Division.

  2. Quizzers can start in the novice division and only quiz there for two years.  After two years they will be required to move to the next division.

  3. Quizzers who earn top trophies in the Novice division three times in a row- the director of the program may suggest moving to upper division.

  1. Novice Division memory work

  1. With help of others we have created a narrowed down list of 50 verses for the Novice Division…this will be a reward for the Novice division only.

  2. List is included at this web link

  3. Note to Coaches- If a Novice quizzer chooses to learn all verses that is great they are able to do that…if they only want to do the 50 there will be awards for them as well.

I believe those are the changes for this year.  As always, we are looking for additional help with officials.  If you are an official and have not contacted me yet this year please do so, so that I know who will be working this year.

We have a new webmaster this year.  Darlene Harris from Perry is now working on updating our website.  So we may be a bit slow at changing as we are moving the format.  Please be patient with this change.  She and I will have the registration forms changed by Sept 2nd so you will be able to print off or register via email.

You can always reach me at 989-666-8157 or via email at figtree101@juno.com.

If anyone has pictures of either Regionals or GBQ please bring them to the September quiz so we can see what our teams have done over the summer months.

One last thing, I haven’t always been certain of what God has chosen for me to do…there have been periods in my life where I was sure that what I was doing was what He chose, but in the end it was just my stubbornness and persistence that made it happen.  In the last year, I have been forced to live my life the way He wants it. I’m not going to lie, it hasn’t been easy.  But it has been eye-opening and has forced me to trust His judgment at times instead of my own.  I start college classes for the first time in 12 years on September 29th to finish a degree that He put in front of me 10+ years ago.  I have spent the last 8 months as a salesman for a organization and while I have some skill at the job, I know it isn’t where God wants me to be, I have realized what He has in mind for me I can’t even fathom.  So, it all boils down to this when you think you are doing what you are the best at, and you haven’t given God a chance to work in you give Him that chance because you will be amazed at what happens when He works in you.

May God bless each one of you…and we will see you in Three Rivers.
