Coach and quizzer letter from Doug on January 2, 2008

Coaches and Quizzers

Couple of things I want to address.  First, there have been some issues with our scoring system that we use.  We will continue to use the current scoring system throughout the end of the quiz year this year.  We are looking into other options for next year.  No promises but your views and opinions have been heard and are being checked into.

Second, my life has been a wee bit topsy turvy this year as we have had to shut down our store in the last several weeks and my job is no longer.  We are surviving and I am looking forward to this quiz this month.  However, without the store and my new home we no longer have hi-speed internet.  So, if you are planning on registering late, just so you know, I may not pick up the registration in time on my email.  Please call me on my cell at 989-666-8157.

Third, this coming quiz we are planning for 8 rooms for quizzing.  There will be no lunch provided so please plan to eat out.  We will have new quizmasters in the JV rooms.  Please advise your quizzers of this change.  Coaches if we are to run 8 rooms we will need extra help in the scorekeeping and content judge areas.  We hope to be able to run 8 rooms for the next several quizzes.

At the October quiz it was asked of me by several quizzers to change the Top 16 to a different date.  So I moved the date to March 29th 2008.  The place has yet to be determined.  We will meet at a place that is central for all quizzers.

So the schedule will function as this.  March 15th will be District finals with Team and JV individual trophies given.  March 29th will be Top 16 finals at a TBD place. Hopefully this does not wreak havoc with your schedules however; we are trying to accommodate all quizzers.

This past year has been rather rough and difficult filled with decisions and moments that were tough to make and handle.  However, we are in a new year with a new focus.  There are sayings out there that I have been living by.  The one that is utmost in my mind at this time is from Ephesians 5:1- to be imitators of God to be pure.  Too often, people watch our actions and not our words.  They want to see if we really practice what we preach.  Paul goes on to say that we are to be pure.  When I think of pure I think of snow just as it has fallen before mud and salt mix in.  Pure white.  Glistening with the sun so that it is hard on the eyes.  Are we that pure?  Can we become that pure?  I have decided there is only one way to be that pure and that is to live as Christ lived.  To be imitators of God the Father.  Let’s be imitators of God.  Let’s show others what it is to be pure.

Please be in prayer for Jen and me as we make some adjustments to our life over the next several months and as I look for a new position.  I am excited about the new quiz this month and am eager to meet with all of you once again.

Please remember to bring your quiz seats, blue boxes, and laptops. Please also remember to register early.  Thanks

Your Director in Christ
